New Adventures Publishing is pleased to introduce, Sunbelievable, a children’s book that explores the world of cultural diversity through the experiences of real children.
To help her little sister fall asleep, YaYa tells stories about the sun’s magical abilities. Does the sun ride a roller coaster? Does it like bubble baths? Why does it wake up birds in the morning? Leen, innocent but skeptical, questions YaYa’s tales.
In the end, Leen turns the tables with her own flight of fancy. The narrative captures the girls’ actual dialogue and spirit of their loving relationship. They are themselves—full of wonder and imagination. Being of Haitian, Russian, Black, White, Christian and Jewish heritage, they experience the rich cultural, ethnic and language diversity of family and community. For YaYa and Leen, this diversity sparks playful, endless curiosity. Their universe is an adventure. If the sun can ride a roller coaster, anything is possible. In reality, a huge void exists in today’s children’s literature about ethnic and racial diversity. Sunbelievable can begin to address this gap. |

The vision of the New Adventures Publishing is to help children learn to accept others as they are, and in so doing gain acceptance for and of themselves.
Sunbelievable was authored by Jo Ann Kairys and her son Daniel, father of YaYa and Leen. Daniel, a general surgeon, works with a large underserved population in Florida and was one of the first medical professionals to fly to Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake (more at dms.dartmouth.edu and palmbeachpost.com). Jo Ann is a professional science writer with numerous publications in peer reviewed medical journals. From extensive travels and teaching healthcare professionals in Russia and Central and Eastern Europe since 1989, she draws upon the imagination and dreams of children around the globe. For Sunbelievable, she incorporated photographs of YaYa and Leen and photographic/digital images from her journeys at home and abroad. Jo Ann published her first book Princes Secrets in 2008.
We hope you will find Sunbelievable a unique and exciting opportunity. It will be produced by Worzalla Publishing Company, one of the highest quality printers in the U.S. offering lead-free print for children’s books. The design is hard cover with a dust jacket, side-sewn for durability. Pages are available in the book for sponsors’ names, organizations and any text they deem appropriate. A sample book is ready for print and review by sponsors.
We are seeking sponsors who want to be associated with a company that is attempting to subtly gain acceptance for cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity. Sponsors can lend a hand on a national and local level, making it possible for numerous smaller organizations to use the book for fund raising. Sponsors also help those in need worldwide by enabling a percent of sales to be donated to Haiti relief efforts or a charity of their choosing. With massive budget cuts looming for education, sponsors also make it possible for school libraries to purchase the book for a fraction of retail cost. We also envision a line of branded toys, games and multiple accessories that further build upon themes of cultural diversity. Long-term, sponsors benefit from having a these products remain in a family, a library, a school for generations. |
